Raising Your Metabolism Is The Best Way To Lose Body Fat
† Sunday, August 15th, 2010The best way to lose body fat is to elevate your metabolism naturally.
‘Metabolism’ is a word that I am sure you have heard of, but may be a little confused by it. You may know that there is a link between your metabolism and your weight, but you don’t understand how.
In today’s on-line world, there’s so much information out there so let’s begin by defining what your metabolism is.
Metabolism is the process of transforming food (e.g. nutrients) into fuel (e.g. energy). The body uses this energy to conduct a vast array of essential functions. So you can hopefully quickly see that the best way to lose body fat is to increase your metabolism; quite simply a higher metabolism burns more calories.
Before I explain your options to increasing your metabolism, let’s just put to bed some of the myths in the fat loss and fitness industry:
Fat Loss Myth Number 1:
Restrictive or starvation diets are good for weight loss. Although you may lose a few pounds during the first few days (mainly through water loss), very quickly your metabolism starts to slow down causing your body to actually story fat and not burn it. Is this the best way to lose body fat?
Fat Loss Myth Number 2:
Fat burning tablets can help you lose weight. I have one thing to say about fat loss pills; they’re a complete waste of your hard-earned money. They are garbage and can have nasty side-effects. Is this the best way to lose body fat?
Fat Loss Myth Number 3:
Cardio is the best workout to lose weight. Not only is spending 30 minutes or more on a treadmill somewhat boring, it doesn’t help you burn fat over the long term. Don’t get me wrong, you burn some fat during the cardio workout itself, but as soon as you stop, your metabolism quickly reverts back to the original level. In addition, you very quickly become conditioned to low intensity cardio meaning that you get very little benefit from this exercise. Is this the best way to lose body fat?
Okay, so now you know what not to do.
Instead I recommend the following to increase your metabolism for elevated periods; it’s quite simply the best way to lose body fat.
Fat Loss Fact Number 1:
You should eat 5-6 meals over the course of a day to keep your metabolism elevated. Each meal should include small portions of lean protein, complex carbohydrates and healthy fats. Remember to stock up on plenty of fruit and vegetables also. By eating every couple of hours your body will receive a constant source of nutrients and energy and you won’t ever feel hungry.
Fat Loss Fact Number 2:
If you increase your muscle mass you will increase your metabolism at rest. Did that make you take note? Creating muscle quite simple means you will burn additional calories at rest. The best way to create muscle is to do resistance training workouts. You can either use weights (barbells, dumbbells, etc) or use your own bodyweight as resistance. You just need to find a great program that overloads your muscles to help them grow.
Fat Loss Fact Number 3:
High intensity training increases your resting metabolism for up to 48 hours. Compare this to what was discussed in Fat Loss Myth Number 3. High intensity resistance training and high intensity interval training both cause fat loss. There are numerous great on-line fat loss and fitness programs that promote this type of training. Not only does it support fat burning at rest, the workouts themselves can be completed in less than 30 minutes.
So that’s it. Naturally increasing your metabolism is the best way to lose body fat through eating little and often, increasing your muscle mass and implementing high intensity workouts.
